Who is Navaan Sandhu?
Navaan Sandhu, born on 8 August 1995 in Amritsar, Punjab, is an Indian singer, songwriter and composer who has become one of the most distinctive voices of the modern, globally-minded Punjabi scene. Blending pop, rap and electronic textures with classically grounded vocals, he built his reputation through a long partnership with UK producers before stepping fully into the mainstream — and in 2026 released his most ambitious project yet, the album Bipolar, opened by the Dhanda Nyoliwala collaboration Kath Lagda.
Early life and training
Sandhu was born and raised in Amritsar, in the Majha region of Punjab — a heartland he would later reference in his music. Crucially for his sound, he trained as a vocalist at the Gurmeet Bawa Sangeet Academy in Amritsar, the school founded in the name of the legendary Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa. That formal grounding in Punjabi vocal tradition gave him a control and tonal warmth that sets him apart from many of his contemporaries, even as his productions reach for contemporary, Western-facing sounds.
Breakthrough with Manni Sandhu
His professional career began in 2018 with "In Demand", the first of several singles made with the influential British-Punjabi producer Manni Sandhu. The pairing immediately signalled his lane: diaspora-flavoured Punjabi music with UK production polish. He followed it the same year with "Special Edition", establishing himself as a fresh name bridging Punjab and the UK club scene.
A run of genre-blending singles
Over the next few years Sandhu released a steady run of singles that showed off his range. "2 Asle" (2020) drew on old-school hip-hop, "Straight Outta Majha" (2020) leaned into his regional pride, and "Mann Di Nahi" (2020) reunited him with Manni Sandhu and Ezu. "Sherni Banke" (2021) and the UK-garage-driven "Do Pal" (with Manni Sandhu and Bakshi Billa) further widened his palette, while ballads like "Dil Lagiyan" showed he could carry softer, melodic material too. Working largely with British-Punjabi producers, he became part of the wave of artists who moved the genre's centre of gravity between Punjab and the UK, where Punjabi music has long thrived in club and radio culture. That cross-border footing — releasing for audiences in Amritsar and Birmingham alike — would define the rest of his career.
Albums: Way Maker, Naveezy and beyond
His full-length era began with the 2022 debut album Way Maker, home to tracks such as "C Walk" and "Jealousy" (with Gurlez Akhtar). After the single "Dead Mangde" he released the album Naveezy in 2023, followed by the EP Paper Before Money in 2024 — a prolific, project-driven output that moved him from singles artist to album artist and deepened his catalogue across moods and sub-genres.
Sound and style
Navaan Sandhu's signature is fusion. He moves easily between melodic Punjabi pop, rap cadences, UK garage, R&B and hip-hop, often within a single project, and his Gurmeet Bawa Sangeet Academy training keeps a traditional vocal core under even his most modern productions. That blend of rootedness and restlessness — a Majha-born, academy-trained voice over diaspora club beats — is what has made him a favourite of listeners who want Punjabi music that sounds genuinely global. He is equally comfortable writing his own lyrics and composing, which has let him steer his sound deliberately from project to project rather than chasing a single formula — one record leaning into hard-edged rap, the next into romance or dancefloor energy.
Collaborations and the mainstream
As his profile grew, so did his collaborators. He featured on "Rounds N Ring" from Yo Yo Honey Singh's 2024 album Glory, a high-profile mainstream co-sign, and has worked repeatedly with producers and vocalists across the Punjabi and diaspora scenes. In 2026 he linked with Haryanvi rap superstar Dhanda Nyoliwala on Kath Lagda, a cross-regional Punjabi-Haryanvi pairing released through Universal Music India.
Bipolar and the road ahead
Sandhu's 2026 album Bipolar — a thirteen-track set whose title nods to its swings of mood and sound — is his biggest statement to date, featuring guests including Dhanda Nyoliwala, Mickey Singh and Param across its run. From an Amritsar academy to UK-produced singles to a major-label album era, Navaan Sandhu has built one of the more quietly substantial catalogues in contemporary Punjabi music, and remains one of the scene's most versatile artists to watch. Where many of his peers pick a lane and stay in it, his willingness to swing between rap, romance, garage and pop — the very idea his album title plays on — is exactly what keeps his music hard to pin down and easy to return to.
