A PhD in Urdu poetry turned songwriter, he is the Filmfare-winning pen behind the soundtracks of Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, Highway and Tamasha — a career-long collaboration with composer A.R. Rahman and director Imtiaz Ali that defined the sound of modern Hindi-film romance.
